Growth Rate of Processing Trade Slowed down and Proportion Fell
According to the statistics of China Customs, the total import and export volume of processing trade amounted to US$81.85 billion in January 2008, an increase of 15.8% year on year. It is 11.3 percentage points lower than the growth rate of China¨s foreign trade, accounting for 41% of total import and export value in the same time, 3.4 percentage points lower than that of the same period in the previous year.
The import of processing trade amounted to US$30 billion, up by 11.8% year on year, accounting for 33.3% of total import of the same period. The trade surplus of processing trade hit US$21.85 billion, up by 28.6% year on year, with the growth rate dropped by 26.3 percentage points.
