The 5th Batch of Shaanxi Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Awarded to Qinqiang Opera Successors

 

On June 10, the 2017 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, Shaanxi rare operas and opera highlights were staged at Xi’an Grand Yisu Theater. The performance of Taoist Chanting in Northern Shaanxi, Mihu Opera, Tunes of Small Copper Bowls and Handiao Erhuang brought the house down. At the awards ceremony of the 5th Batch of Shaanxi Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage before the performance, 7 senior artists of high prestige and universal respect such as Zhang Caixiang, Guo Baohua, Cui Huifang and Hao Caifeng won the awards.

Until now, 3 Shaanxi items of Xi’an Drum Music, Chinese Paper Cutting, Huaxian County Shadow Play have been placed on UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists. Shaanxi established its list of intangible cultural heritage at national, provincial, municipal and county (district and city) levels including national-level intangible cultural heritage of 74, provincial-level of 520, municipal-level of 1415 and county-level of 4150. The number of Shaanxi successors of national, provincial, municipal and county-level intangible cultural heritage are 46, 398, 1281 and 3977 respectively. Two batches of 51 Shaanxi Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Bases (Units) have been established.

As the representative culture of Shaanxi Province, Qinqiang Opera was placed on the 1st batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in China. The inheritance and development of Qinqiang Opera as an artistic form relied heavily on the perseverance and endeavor of the successors. The awards ceremony by Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture on Cultural and Natural Heritage Day for the successors of Qinqiang Opera will further promote the work of intangible cultural heritage protection in Shaanxi Province.
