The 3rd Meeting of the BRICS Trade and Economic Contact Group of 2017 Held in Shanghai

On July 30 2017, the 3rd Meeting of the Chinese Year of the BRICS Trade and Economic Contact Group (the 16th meeting) was held in Shanghai. Five BRICS members such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as well as the representatives from some international organizations such as UNCTAD, UNIDO and ITC participated in the meeting. Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

Wang pointed out in his address that since this year all parties have conducted profound discussions on issues such as trade facilitation, investment facilitation, trade in service, e-commerce, intellectual property, economic and technical cooperation and supporting multilateral trade system with practical progress. China hopes to work with all parties to realize positive and practical achievements in the above fields, submit the achievements to the trade ministerial conference of the forthcoming BRICS in Shanghai on August 1-2, and do good trade and economic preparation work for the leaders’ meeting in Xiamen.

The first and the second meetings of the BRICS trade and economic contact group of 2017 have been held in Beijing in March and May. This meeting is the preparation meeting for the trade ministerial meeting of the BRICS and will last two days.
